Mini-ITX home server – part one, hardware
While modified router works well as a mini server with backoffice services, low I/O throughput and computing power is a bottleneck for storing large files and administering wordpress blog. Waiting long seconds for administrative console to response, it was bugging me for time long enough to start thinking about a new server setup. I targeted a compact size, fanless and energy saving platform with performance guarantying enough responsiveness… Continue reading
Casablanca in January
My job requires travelling from time to time, usually in Europe. Sometimes however I am assigned to tasks in more exotic places. In January I spent a week in Casablanca, Morocco. It was not vacation and every day was fully booked, but managing my time smart, I coult try to see more than hotel and office – here you find my short report. Couple hours of travelling changed the image of cold, gray, windy and depressive winter in January into… Continue reading

Bratislava, mirazyme and chicken
Thinking of recent business travel to Slovak Republic, southern neighbors, I still have in my mind long hours spent in the night at the hotel trying to reduce backlog. During day time I had not time to enjoy amazingly beautiful downtown near the hotel I was staying in. With that introduction, how can I make another travel log entry if I neither got photos nor discoveries? I made up bizarre title which in fact makes a lot sense to urban skaters…. Continue reading

Push and Shove in KiCad
When laying down PCB track manually usually some other tracks are obstacle and need to be moved away. In KiCad it is manual work, in advanced tools they are pushed making room automatically while another track is approaching. FreeRouter can do this for KiCad but its UI is far from perfection. KiCad will do it natively soon, as shown on this video. On 18 September 2013, Tomasz Wlostowski on behalf of CERN team, announced they have some alpha… Continue reading
Secure FTP with chroot jail on OpenWRT
I am happy user of vsftpd that gives me necessery features but encryption. I was trying to replace existing approach but did not succeed. Here comes the story. OpenWRT is specific platform, which does not give that much flexibility as typical Linux. Having this in my mind I was searching for a solution that would allow multiple users access isolated directories, called chroot jail in fact, of my home storage in more secure way. FTP sends all… Continue reading

Is skating season 2011 opened?
Usually in March we have here snow mud, gray sky and temperatures below zero. It means no skating outside. Well… fluctuation of climate changes what is usual. For last couple days we have almost spring here: +15 degrees celsius, dry ground and sunny sky. I could not resist jumping into skate boots even though there is a lot of dust. Pahtwalks are still very sandy but I took up a challange and on last Saturday I did first freeride through… Continue reading

Slalom Skating
Inline skating, my favorite activity since 1999, the history of couple boots wasted, hundreds of wheels and bearings worn out riding in parks, avenues and path walks. Before big rush around slalom skating that appeared around 2005 in eastern Europe I was simply recreational skater. More and more young and eager skaters started trainings, so did I. At that time recreational skate boots combined with bisected tennis balls as slalom markes did not… Continue reading

Moscow in Autumn
Short deployment to Moscow stopped me from re-exploring the city. Last time it was the haze of burning woods, this time rainy and cold weather of Moscow’s early Autumn. I am not sure what was worse, the atmosphere or my inclination to bitching, using both the picture drawn is simple: I do not like this place. My grumblings start again with the oligarch-style hotel Metropol. This luxury is superficial as it manifests mostly by overpriced… Continue reading

Abu Dhabi on wheels
Another pinpoint on the map of Arabic world. Neither as much fun and tourist oriented as Dubai, nor as fundamental as Riyadh, yet something else to discover. One of newest mosques, world fastest roller-coaster or beautiful Corniche coastline, just to mention few, and actually to mention all I could see deployed shortly in the capitol of UAE. Abu Dhabi, city on T-shaped island, is not as famous as Dubai, for sure. Great alternative for snowy… Continue reading
