Into the wilder wild

Plan of return to Jo’burg projected a vision of visiting wild life park. Pilanesberg appeared to be better choice comparing to Kruger Park I considered first, as the former is in one-day-visit roundtrip distance. Budget of two free days was simply managed: day one – visit Pilanesberg not being eaten, day two – visit a friend living in Pretoria and get braai eaten. Such plan was obvious as local attractions were already… Continue reading

USB mod for TL-WR1043ND

This gallery contains 17 photos.

Encouraged by successful RAM modification I started consider extension of USB ports number in TP-Link device. Originally it contains only one USB2.0 port and if you are using extroot (file system on external storage), you effectively have no free USB port. I was thinking about print server to share USB printer at home (printers with network cards are more expensive). I planned to have external HDD permanently attached to router case and I did… Continue reading

WebPD opened editors limit modification

IDE environment in IBM BPM migrated from Eclipse-based app to WebPD, a web-based process editor. WebPD built on top of IBM BPM Coach Framework, based on dojo toolkit, hosting complex visual editors suffers from performance and stability issues. It can simply reload itself mid your work (because of some internal broken assertion), editor can stuck and manual reload is needed etc. The more artifacts opened the less stable it is. To limit resource… Continue reading

Levels of slalom tricks

Before the age of youtube I was a fun of munobal videos (now you can find them on youtube anyway). It was very useful since it gives you different camera angles you you can learn trics stright from videos, as I do. It is good however to learn tricks on similar level of difficulty – it allows you to build necessary skills for next levels, and gives satisfaction of successful exercises, so crucial factor to keep learning going. After some… Continue reading

Breathtaking Dubai

Couple years ago I was watching Extreme Engineering program on Discovery channel about sheikhs spending fortune on their fantasy, building snowy ski resort in the middle of the desert. Last month I could see the roof of Ski Dubai from my hotel window, stare at the slopes through the windows in shopping center, and finally try it on my own (no, you do not skate in shorts and T-shirts, they provide clothes included in entry fee). It was just… Continue reading

ownCloud unsharing plugin

While reviewing ownCloud features, to get better view on its pros and cons, I realized that sharing feature has one serious drawback. To share a file or a folder you hover over it, click “share” and configure all details. The issue is that there is no single view of all shares, if you forget what actually you are sharing you need to browse through hierarchy of folders and check their status one by one. To solve this problem I made… Continue reading

Intercepting Boundary Events in Coach View

Boundary Event is core concept of UI technology in IBM BPM: any visual element (coach view) of screen (coach) can fire such event moving control from current screen to some other place, crossing “screen boundary“. In fact Boundary Event is the only way to make such transition on diagram of coaches. Problem is that IBM BPM event model is trivial and does not allow virtually any interference with event in progress, one… Continue reading

SIM900A fixed for Europe

So you got SIM900A, cheaper version of SIM900 with the same pinout/functions and 2-band instead of 4-band GSM radio, just to stumble on logging to network. While its great for Asian GSM infrastructure in different places in the world you will just get “PH-NET PIN” response meaning its locked for current network. I found that flashing SIM900A with firmware for SIM900 opens it up again to work exactly as SIM900, with slightly worse… Continue reading

Misery loves company

London would be another short distance deployment place where I have been couple times already. Last week however stochastic processes of nature were not working for me. I faced unusual series of funny accidents that made my work week much more colorful. In Frankfurt, connection hub, I had the flight to London Heathrow. As always I quickly browsed thru the list of flight to get the terminal and gate, and proceeded. Twenty minutes before… Continue reading

e-snowflake

Late in December 2011 I almost bet that I am able to design & build myself a blinking serpent of rainbow lights for Christmas tree. I did not want to spend much time on creating cables and lights themselves but I imagined a star shaped thing full of LED lights that would gently shine or glimmer in many ways. Dozen of work-hours and couple weeks later my new DIY project has seen the light of day; on nearly dry and dead tree I hung the… Continue reading
