Apple Messages failing to login to Google Talk

So you may want to synchronize your iChat/iMessage/Messages with Google Talk on your beloved device while the application insists on wrong password even though you double- (or even triple-) checked it is in order. Log review brings cryptic error like: imagent[816]: [Warning] XMPPConnection: Error: Error Domain=XMPPErrorDomain Code=112 “The operation couldn’t be completed. (XMPPErrorDomain error 112.)”. Googling leads nowhere so you p… Continue reading

IE polyfills BPM way

Some organizations still cannot shrug Internet Explorer (IE) off their IT standards. Combine it with user interface of IBM BPM based on Javascript and your development falls back to coding practices in early 2000’s. Surely there are ways to fill the gaps with polyfills and shims, the question is how do do it neatly in BPM. Let’s see! I had this issue couple years ago. That time our department had been already involved in long… Continue reading

My new (htc) desire

After almost 12 years of marriage with Nokia brand I decided to try something else. I wanted to have phone with portable GPS with a screen big enough to see maps while driving a car. Anything more was an option I thought. My ignorance ended up right after I started to play with smartphone of my colegue. Out of sight, out of mind. It is a toy, I agree, but processing power and its usability gave me quick rationale for new buy (like everyone I… Continue reading

Smartphone powered urban skating

Many times I asked myself this question: how long was my free ride today, how much time it took, was this workout good enough and in effect, if I am absolved from chocolate consumption :] Android OS can leverage from dedicated applications like endomondo.com that tracks your workout profile in time and space, using GPS, building up statistics like quickest lap, burned calories and so on. GPS path logged by HTC This tool is more than simple… Continue reading

Refreshing Desire

HTC Desire is a mid-end smartphone with limited memory being already out of radar of HTC updates. Rooted phone can have installed customized firmware that accommodated recent changes. It is a bumpy road if you are into newest Sense (feature rich interface), yet still concerned with responsiveness, battery consumption and other factors. I found the solution holding most of my tight requirements. I would not even think about changing Starbust… Continue reading

Coach validation errors in one place

Imagine you want to see all IBM BPM coach validation errors in one place. By default after validation phase you need to find all invalidated widgets one by one, changing tab or opening accordions, and so on. Coach framework does not give any programmatic tool to get all validation messages from inside of coach view. While SPARK / BPMUI library gives some helper functions it does not cover all cases. Here I discuss simple way to plug-in to (or… Continue reading

SIM900A fixed for Europe

So you got SIM900A, cheaper version of SIM900 with the same pinout/functions and 2-band instead of 4-band GSM radio, just to stumble on logging to network. While its great for Asian GSM infrastructure in different places in the world you will just get “PH-NET PIN” response meaning its locked for current network. I found that flashing SIM900A with firmware for SIM900 opens it up again to work exactly as SIM900, with slightly worse… Continue reading

OSX mishandles SSID with @ sign

Lately at the airport so-called user-friendly Apple operating system was stubbornly failing to log into WiFi without giving me any clues. Meanwhile Android phone was happily sucking data from the same hotspot. It turned to be an OSX (Yosemite 10.10.4) bug when hotspot uses valid for SSID “at” (@) sign. Intuintion of engineer let me quickly overrun this issue. But hey Apple, what about average Joe OSX is designed for? Here is the… Continue reading

External RAM and lost MCUCSR

Atmega’s MCUCSR status register gives info about restart reason like regular reset-pin shorted, watchdog initiated reset, or brown-out on low voltage from power supply. Pieces of valuable information for device defect tracking. Reading MCUCSR early in test program was fine, while in real system with bootloader and external RAM memory I always got incorrect value. It took me couple hours to pin down the problem of single incorrect byte of… Continue reading

How much cloud in the ownCloud?

Saying cloud we think Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud or similar. They are more or less cloud storages with extra services operating of stored data like web photo albums, in-browser document viewers, sharing data options and so on. Cloud storage in short is about keeping your data somewhere out there relying on provider’s infrastructure. It is more than data centers or online storage however. Cloud solution promises that all your clients… Continue reading
